| JOHN RAYWOOD - since retiring from GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), John has become Director, Membership Development of BEERG. He played a key role in the creation of the ‘European Works Council’ in GSK, following the merger between Glaxo Wellcome and SmithKline Beecham in 2000. John has had a lifetime of involvement with industrial relations: beginning in the UK Civil Service, where he was a senior officer of the largest trade union, he helped form the trade union bank (‘Unity Trust’) as a subsidiary of the Co-operative Bank, managed the associate pensions company ‘Unity Pensions’ and served on the Boards of several of the Bank’s other ‘financial services’ subsidiaries. After a period as Executive Chairman of the commercial wing of a large national charity in the UK, he initially joined Glaxo Wellcome, after the merger in 1995, to help introduce a new integrated pension scheme before resuming his involvement in employee relations. John has lectured on industrial relations, including at the MBA courses at Warwick University, UK, undertaken representative roles at numerous international conferences and led a variety of projects, including the restructuring of the London Society of Rugby Football Union Referees (the largest in the world). In his role with BEERG, John works with members in the UK and Ireland and promotes BEERG to non-members as “port of call” of choice for information and advice on European employee relations issues. | | |
